  8. I would be remiss if I did not mention that through the Internet you have
  9. access to hundreds of library catalogs.  Library catalogs can be accessed
  10. individually; however, it is now common for you to gain access to an
  11. individual library catalog through a gateway or menu system.
  12.  
  13. The following example gets you to the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie-Mellon
  14. University, and Carnegie Public Library of Pittsburgh catalogs.

  213. The fact that you can access a library catalog from home or office
  214. is, to me, amazing.  I've had students in library school that never
  215. used a card catalog.  In many cases you are able not only to locate
  216. material, but also find out if the material is available for loan
  217. or if someone else is using it.  Of course it is all relevant.  A
  218. few years back, when I first found out about these resources, my
  219. wife asked me to checked the library for a certain author.  I was
  220. in my electronic networking glory when I walked her to the kitchen
  221. and within a minute had the full bibliographic information on the
  222. screen; she was not impressed--her next question was "what button
  223. do you press to get an annotation of the book."
